Kalifront Forest: A Green Sanctuary
The Kalifront Forest, located on the western side of Rab Island, is one of the largest preserved Mediterranean forests in Croatia. This lush expanse of holm oaks and Aleppo pines provides a cool, shaded retreat and is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts.
As we hike or cycle through Kalifront, you'll experience its peaceful trails that wind through dense greenery and open up to stunning coastal views. The forest is part of a protected area and is home to diverse flora and fauna, including the elusive mouflon, a type of wild sheep. Along the way, you’ll encounter secluded coves and bays with crystal-clear waters, perfect for a refreshing break.
One of the forest’s highlights is the Dundo Forest Reserve, a rare and ancient woodland that has been protected for over a century. Walking or biking through this area feels like stepping back in time, surrounded by trees that have stood for hundreds of years.
Lopar: The Island’s Sandy Paradise
In contrast to the rocky beaches typical of Croatia, Lopar on Rab Island is famous for its white sandy beaches, making it a true paradise for beach lovers. Lopar boasts over 20 sandy beaches, with the most famous being Paradise Beach (Rajska Plaža).
Stretching for nearly 2 kilometers, Paradise Beach offers shallow, warm waters and soft sands, making it ideal for swimming, sunbathing, or simply relaxing. The area is also perfect for families and those looking to enjoy the gentle side of the Adriatic.
For the adventurous, Lopar’s sandy coves and hidden beaches are waiting to be explored. A short hike or bike ride will take you to more secluded spots, where you can enjoy the untouched beauty of Rab’s coastline.
